Vegan Meals at Green Bar Kitchen in Fort Lauderdale – The SoFla Sage

Happy February! Was your New Year resolution to go vegan? Mine wasn’t, BUT I’m always aiming for balance and that means incorporating more plant-based meals into my diet. For those who don’t want to go fully vegan, I recommend taking “Meatless Monday” one step further by choosing a vegetarian or vegan meal once per day. Dining at Green Bar Kitchen can help you meet this goal. After shutting down their test kitchen on Galt Ocean Mile, Green Bar Kitchen continues to offer all vegan fare at their flagship location on SE 17th Street in Fort Lauderdale. I recently visited for an early dinner:

a

I was fighting off a cold during my January visit so I got this orange juice for an immune boosting effect, it has cayenne pepper in it too – ZING.

b

Crab Cakes – chickpea, heart of palm, veganaise, parsley, kelp, scallion, spice blend, arugula, pickled onions.
These were good! The inclusion of kelp was smart, helped bring that seafood flavor into an otherwise vegan dish.

GBK Burger – brown rice, quinoa, chickpea, sunflower, fresh parsley, sea salt, carrots, onions, garlic, extra Virgin olive oil, Apple cider vinegar, tamari, tyme, rosemary, sage

My issue with vegan burgers is that I end up feeling like I just ate a mountain of carbs because the patty is often grain based and then you have the bun to go with it. Quinoa is technically not a grain and neither is chickpea. I liked this combo, it tasted good, but I still ended up taking off most of the bun.

P.S. Their BAD (Breakfast All Day) Burger recently won Best Plant-Based Burger in America at SEED Food and Wine Festival – I gotta go back to try that one!

f

Fries with that burger? Yes, especially when they are tasty like these loaded fries with vegan sausage. Sweet potato fries are available as well.

c

What I really love about this taco salad is all the wonderful sauces that come with it to bring this dish together. The cashew cheese is delicious.

GBK offers Vegan Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner! They also have desserts, juice cleanses, catering, and more. Read their story here.

Disclosure: I received a complimentary tasting at Green Bar Kitchen. All opinions are my own.
