Proprietor and Chef Jonathan moved to South Florida 13 years ago from Colorado on a whim to open his dream restaurant; Six Tables in Boca Raton. The plan was set in motion to establish a business model for a “turn key upscale restaurant” designed for a chef who wants to be in business for themselves and have a personal life, too. Six Tables opened in early June 2004 and today Chef Jon chooses his own hours, which change seasonally.
This summer through thanksgiving, STaR will be open 3 days a week: Thursday, Friday and Saturday, for dinner only. On Thursday and Friday nights, guests can enjoy a special summer offering of three courses during a choice of two seatings for dinner: 6:30pm and 8:00pm. The special menu is blend of classic and contemporary cuisine priced at $99 for Two + Beverages, Tax, Service.
Chef Jonathan’s wife Deborah created the décor for of the intimate dining room and will be your hostess for the evening. The staff is composed of just Chef Jonathan, Deborah and one member of the wait staff.
I recently had to opportunity to experience STaR with other local bloggers for a unique paring dinner. The pairing was not wine or beer, our dishes were mindfully matched with microgreens grown by local farmer Nicholas of Natural Nomad Farms.
Appetizer trio –
crab cake with fennel creme fresh remoulade and arugula microgreens // hand harvested diver scallops with cauliflower puree and red vein sorrel // salmon bruschetta on brioche toast with red cabbage microgreens
I really like the use of brioche for the bruschetta as it adds a nice bit of sweetness to balance out the smoky salmon. Loved the crab cakes!
Salad and soups – garden melange house salad with citrus vinaigrette, bibb lettuce, mixed microgreens and nasturtium flower // chilled veloute vegan soup with kale microgreens & signature lobster bisque with green sorrel microgreens
Entrees – filet mignon with pea shoots crispy potato and brussels sprouts // red snapper fish fillet with squash shiso microgreens
The crispy potatoes were amazing and both the filet & fillet were delicious.
Entrees – roasted orange duck with fennel microgreens, venison with shiraz sherry reduction and red chard micros // pistachio crusted lamb rack with garbanzo shoots
The duck was so very tender and this was probably some of the best lamb chops I’ve ever had!
Dessert – chocolate decadence strawberry shortcake with chocolate mouse // electric sorbet (fruit sorbet mixed with buzz buttons) with fresh fruit and blue borage flower as a final palate cleanser
The shortcake was so good and I loved the combination with chocolate mousse.
Six Tables is known as a special occasion restaurant – diners visit by reservation only on limited days out of the week. Now, you don’t need a special occasion to experience the unique ways of STaR for yourself at a great price of $99+ for two until Thanksgiving! The restaurant is also available for private parties in house.
