The South Florida Sage recently joined the Foodie Tribe for a dinner at Morgans in Wynwood. The abundance of food, ranging from breakfast all the way to dessert, made for a food lover’s heaven!
Among trendier restaurants such as Wynwood Kitchen & Bar and Beaker & Gray, Morgans stands out as a family owned restaurant that uses local ingredients and no-frills recipes. Located in a former house, the eatery makes diners feel as if they’re going to a Sunday night dinner at Grandma’s. The retro Florida-esque décor, complete with palm leaf wallpaper and pink plastic chairs, gives off some good ol’ Sunshine State charm.

The bread basket that held us over before the main meal included some delicious cornbread with just a hint of sweetness. It was simultaneously rough and moist enough to make for the perfect texture.

The Putin’s Peach Mule, a variation on a Moscow mule made with vodka, peach and ginger beer, had just enough sweetness to make for a light and refreshing cocktail. When the main courses came out, the entire table was filled to every corner. Sandwiches and salads and pancakes, oh my!
The Mascarpone Stuffed Raspberry French Toast is perfect for a late-night brunch when you’re craving some sweet breakfast food. The raspberries complemented the creamy mascarpone exceptionally well, and there definitely weren’t any leftovers.

The Chicken and Waffle Sandwich, complete with melted cheddar cheese was a delectable concept.  Although we would’ve liked a little more flavor on the waffles themselves, the addition of maple syrup and sriracha sauce made the sandwich come together.

The star dish of the evening had to be the mac and cheese topped with a sunny-side-up egg. The yolk was perfectly runny and slid onto the creamy elbow pasta!

After the dinner extravaganza, we sampled coconut cake and various cookies, along with beignets which took about 30 minutes to make.

The carrot cake included turmeric, a surprise that made for a unique and interesting dessert.
