Where To Get a Thanksgiving-Inspired Sandwich in South Florida & Beyond – 2021 Edition – The SoFla Sage

By: Holli Ryan, RD, LD/N

Hi, hello, it’s me –

After an almost two year blog post writing hiatus (on this site), which includes one pandemic and one baby later, I am returning to the keyboard with a very important topic: Thanksgiving Sandwiches!

Personally, I LOVE a good leftover sandwich the day after Thanksgiving. Almost as much as Thanksgiving dinner itself. You know, the kind that has “a little bit of everything” from the meal piled between some hearty bread – yes, even the stuffing. I’ll take the pie on the side, though.

If you will be eating at someone else’s house for Thanksgiving and won’t have any leftovers, or feel that one or two leftover sandwiches just isn’t enough and need even more holiday flavor in your life throughout November (and even into December) I’ve got you covered. Here are 7 places can find Thanksgiving Inspired Sandwiches in South Florida! Plus, a few of these places are chains, so you can also find them outside of the SoFla area.

1) Publix

Turkey Cranberry Holiday Sub – Ovengold Turkey Breast, Smoked Gruyere Cheese, Bacon, and Cranberry Orange Relish

Ah, the “Pub Sub”, one of the good things we have going for us (food-wise) here in Florida. I look forward to the Publix Holiday Sub every year! My order, as shown here, excludes bacon and includes spinach. BTW, Publix sells the Cranberry Orange Relish that they use on this sandwich and it’s located in the deli section near the potato salad.

2) Parlour Vegan Bakery

Ross Geller Leftover Sandwich – Inspired by the hit TV show Friends, this 100% vegan sandwich consists of a Baguette with “Mayo”, Cranberry Sauce, Mashed Potatoes, Thanksgiving “Turkey”, Gravy, Gourmet Herb & Sausage Stuffing

This sandwich makes an appearance every September during the FRIENDS Weekend celebration, along with a full menu of other items inspired by the show. The vegan bakery, which has 2 South Florida locations (one in Boca Raton and their original spot in Plantation) plans to bring it back again after the Thanksgiving holiday.

I am not on a vegan diet, but I still enjoyed it. It’s quite filling, too.

3) Henrys Sandwich Station

Roasted Turkey – All-natural turkey breast, cranberry goat cheese jam, avocado, baby arugula

I usually go for the chicken sandwiches at Henry’s, one of my favorites being their KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) sandwich. I decided to try this one (it’s served cold) since it channeled some thanksgiving vibes with the cranberry goat cheese jam. I found the goat cheese to be a little overpowering and wanted more cranberry flavor. All in all, its a good sandwich. Plus, they have pies! Which, of course, is a stable of Thanksgiving meals.

4) Wawa’s

Want thanksgiving on a roll (or in a bowl)? Wobble over to Wawa! This chain has a cult following up north and made its way to the South Florida area in recent years.

The Gobbler Hoagie with Mashed Potatoes – Hot turkey, savory gravy, cranberry sauce, and mashed potatoes on a hoagie roll (can also be ordered with sweet potatoes)

The original Gobbler comes with traditional Thanksgiving fixings – hot turkey smothered in savory gravy, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. Skipping the bread? This is also available as a bowl and includes both the stuffing and potatoes.

I tried all versions except the sweet potato. To my surprise, I found the mashed potatoes to be pretty good. The turkey was pretty low quality, but hey, it is a gas station after all. (Sorry Wawa lovers)

5) The Modern Rose

Gobbler Croissant – Smoked Turkey, Smoked Gouda, House Made Cranberry Mayo, Fresh Sliced Apple, Herbs, Butter Croissant, Turkey Gravy

I haven’t gotten to try this (yet) but it looks really good!

This launched on 11/18 and according to their Instagram post, it is available through the rest of the month in both Deerfield and Delray locations.

6) Lunchroom Sandwiches

Thanksgiving Deluxe – Turkey Burger, Bacon Cornbread Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy, Cranberry Relish, Brioche Bun

Lunchroom Sandwiches is located in North Fort Lauderdale. They listed this as a special of the week on 11/10, so it’s unclear if it is still available or will become available again. But keep it on your radar!

7) Sushi Eat Station

Thanksgiving Fried Burrito – Mashed Potatoes, Stuffing Cranberry Sauce Turkey, Side of Gravy

Sushi Eat Station isn’t exactly in South Florida, but they do have locations in Orlando, Tampa, and Gainesville. I’m pretty curious to try it! Available through the month of November.

In previous years, I’ve seen Thanksgiving or Turkey Sandwiches with some of the needed elements pop-up at other places like Starbucks, Arby’s, and PDQ. In 2020, I tried the Arby’s Turkey Wrap, but it was disappointing that it did not have cranberry. I never did get to try the Starbucks version. Have you seen one that didn’t make this list? Let me know in the comments!
